Consideration of current views, experiences, and ideas of Victorians about Victoria’s forests and forest use has been a key input to modernised RFAs.
Understanding of contemporary community values was gained through extensive community engagement conducted by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments together as part of the RFA modernisation process. Broader community engagement by the Victorian Government for related projects in forest management reform has provided further insight to contemporary community values.
RFA consultation was structured around the Independent Consultation Paper - Modernisation of the Victorian Regional Forest Agreements - written by Dr William Jackson.
Findings from community consultation (PDF, 1.9 MB) was complemented by a report of advice from a dedicated RFA Reference Group (PDF, 408.0 KB) that represented a diverse range of community interests including Traditional Owners, environment, industry, and recreation.
Contemporary community values regarding Victoria’s forests were considered alongside the latest science and input from Traditional Owners during the modernisation process.
